advocaat Johan Van Renterghem LL.M.

In 1993, Johan Van Renterghem graduated from the Universiteit Gent as a Licentiaat in de rechten.

Afterwards he gained the degree of European master in Law and Economics after studies at the Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam in the Netherlands, the Universität Hamburg in Germany and The Victoria University of Manchester in the United Kingdom.

He remained in Manchester and became a Master of Laws (shortened : LL.M., what stands for Legum Magister).  During his stay in the United Kingdom he enjoyed his first work experience in the service of Humphries Kirk solicitors, a law firm with several branches in Dorset.

Upon his return to Belgium he started his traineeship in Bruges.  In 1996, he was elected as one of four Belgians to participate in the pilot-project for the exchange of trainees of the Leonardo Da Vinci-programma.  This enabled him to go to Scotland and work for Thorntons WS solicitors, a law firm with basis in Dundee.

At the end of his traineeship he joined the ranks of William Fry solicitors in Dublin for a few months, where he was mainly active in the field of information technology.

After concluding his traineeship he kept office in Brussels for some years, during which he was a member of the fifth working group of the Millennium Forum that examined the legal and the insurance aspects of the millennium problem (the notorious Y2k-bug).

Recently he decided to return to his roots and established his own law firm in Eeklo, in the heart of the Meetjesland, a region that lies between Ghent and Bruges, ideally located near cities as Antwerp, Brussels and Ostend.  He concentrates on commercial matters and can rely on a broad based international experience in contracts, company law, insolvency, intellectual property and trade practices.
